Matching Grant Moves Forward
By Joanne Travers
Apr 28, 2004, 10:56

Dear Fellow Rotarians:

Our application for The Rotary Foundation Matching Grant is essentially complete, and is ready to be submitted to our District (#7930) for approval and submission to The Rotary Foundation!  Upon one last read through, we are hoping to get our proposal submited this May, but are waiting for approval from the district to do so.

As some of you may know, this matching grant request supports a project that helps deaf and hard of hearing children, teachers of the deaf and parents in San Pedro des Macoris, a poor community in the Dominican Republic.  It establishes sustainable hearing health services, auditory-oral/verbal education (teaching hard of hearing children to speak) and parent/teacher support/training.  With help from Partners for A Greater Voice, we have a fabulous line up of Rotarians and volunteers working together to make this a successful project.

Furthermore, as an essential part of this mission, the Topsfield, Boxford, Middleton Club will continue to raise money to support the necessary sound proofing and materials needed to create technically sound environments for hearing health services and education.  Unfortunately, the sound proofing component of this project is not covered by The Rotary Foundation.  A technically sound environment for learning and testing is required, however, and sound proofing materials are essential to helping these children learn to listen with amplified technology.

You are welcome to read through our proposal on line!  See next article posted on this site.  Rotarians and Rotary Clubs interested in becoming involved with this project may contact Joanne Travers, traversjo@comcast.net
